In 1974, my dad took us on a trip through Europe in an orange VW pop top camper. It looked like a large piece of cheddar. Not coincidentally, he was studying cheese on that trip, a sabbatical from the University of Minnesota. While I was only four that summer, it is one of my favorite childhood adventures, the pieces I remember first hand. Fortunately, my dad, ever the scientist, kept a diary. Each day writing down who he saw, what we were up to while he was talking about cheese, and all the associated happenings, good and bad. My three siblings might not remember this trip as magical as I do. It spawned my love of travel and most importantly, my love of cheese. Thanks Fad.
My dad recently passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s. Here is a link to his obituary: Fad
